WHAT IS HYDROXYTYROSOL?
Olive oil and olives are among the most important components of the Mediterranean diet. Today, this is considered one of the healthiest diets due to its composition of fruits, vegetables, legumes, high fiber content, and valuable fats from fish and olive oil. Fresh olives and so-called “extra virgin” (cold-pressed) olive oil also contain natural ingredients such as hydroxytyrosol (HYT), which are known to have a number of positive properties for a long and healthy life. What are these properties?

EFFECTIVE ANTIOXIDANT
Hydroxytyrosol (HYT) is the most effective naturally occurring antioxidant, at least 20 times more effective than vitamins C and E, for example. After absorption, it is transported from the blood into the brain via an active mechanism, where it is also found in small quantities in humans. This availability in the brain, which is shielded from external influences and harmful substances in the blood, represents an important advantage over other antioxidants.
Inflammatory and ageing processes damage cells and tissue in our body through a core mechanism known as radical-mediated stress. This is involved in all chronic disease processes and also in natural ageing. Studies suggest that HYT may support cell-protective effects in the cardiovascular system and brain, which may help limit damage.
Although HYT is found in fresh olives and in small amounts in cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil, it is removed during the processing of olives for consumption due to its bitter flavour. It is therefore difficult to obtain sufficient amounts of this natural substance in the normal diet and even in a Mediterranean diet.
Our Noubrain olive fruit extract is a high-quality extract obtained by natural processing of Spanish olives, in which HYT is enriched and which is available in capsule form. When taken regularly, it can develop cell-protecting effects in the cardiovascular system, brain and other organs.
